On August 3rd, Xi'an Chanba Poly Theatre was packed to capacity. This was the premiere of the China Philharmonic Orchestra's tone poem A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains and the opening night of the Xi'an Chanba Poly Theatre, one of the four functional areas of the Xi'an Chanba Silk Road International Cultural Arts Center, representing the official unveiling of the "Pearl of the Ba River".

A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains was inspired by Wang Ximeng (1096-1119), a genius painter from the Song Dynasty (960-1279), and created and composed by Zhao Lin, who was the Sound Director of the opening ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Performed by the conductor Yu Long and the China Philharmonic Orchestra, this 70-minute symphony, turned the mountains, the green and flowing water into the rhythm, and delivered to the audience, both the artists on stage and the audience, were immersed in the beautiful sound.

The venue for the symphony, Xi'an Chanba Poly Theatre, was designed by Zhao Yuanchao, a Chinese architectural designer and chief architect of the China Northwest Architecture Design and Research Institute. The building function includes four theater, multi-function hall, art museum, activity center, etc.

The Theatre can accommodate 1500 people and can complete different types of performances, such as concerts, plays, musicals, local operas and meetings. The LCR system used L-Acoustics Karai as the main, with SB18i subwoofer to extend low frequencies. X12 was deployed as outfills on both sides at the front area, and used as installed and mobile stage monitors. The fills system for the stage lip and the pit chose 5XT enclosures. The audience area is horseshoe type design, and to take on more different types of performances, the venue installed X8 on each of three floors as surround fills.

For the multi-function hall, there were two hangs of ARCS Focuc arrarys rigged on both sides with SB18 stacked on ground, and using X8 as fills system. Same as the theatre, X12 was deployed as stage monitor. All systems from the theatre and multi-function hall are driven by L-Acoustics four-channel LA4X amplifiers. Taking into account various applications and the different use of needs, the grand heater and multi-purpose hall were respectively equipped with DiGiCo SD5 console and S21 console.

“To have it all aournd you, and when you look up at the drawing, the A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains, it’s a very immersive experience.” praiseful comments from the site. “It could be the most modern configuration for theatres in domestic, and has been reaching the leading standard in technology and performance, meeting the needs of large-scale performances.” says Jin Ruidong, head of stage technology at Xi'an Chanba Poly Theatre.
