Audio Video Bridging (AVB) is an audio-video system based on the IEEE802.1 standard for multi-channel multi-point transmission of audio-video data streams over a local area network. It guarantees the Bandwidth, Latency and Time synchronization of AV transmission over traditional networks.
L-Acoustics, together with other professional audio companies, has launched the MILAN protocol based on the AVB protocol and officially became a director of the AVNU consortium in June 2019, giving a boost to the application of AVB technology in the professional audio field.
l Advantages of AVB for Professional Audio
The AVB protocol determines the data stream integrity of audio transmissions and reduces the loss in transmission by guaranteeing the bandwidth of audio transmissions.
l The application of AVB in L-Acoustics System
In professional audio system, AVB is divided into: AVB talker (provide signal stream for AVB audio system), AVB bridge (manage AVB signal stream and as the switch), AVB listener (be able to receive AVB signal stream), AVB controller (manage AVB system by controlling data, not necessarily part of AVB system).
Refer to the graph above, P1 is the AVB talker, which provides the signal flow for the whole AVB system.
P1 combines three functions in one device, AVB processor, audio measurement platform and routing matrix, it can process AVB, AES/EBU, ANALOG signals, 8 buses can be routed matrix. P1 can be loaded with EQ, delay and dynamic processing. When making audio measurements, it supports 4 mic's at the same time, offline delay and EQ.
With 20 inputs and 16 outpus architecture, P1 can carry out AVB, AES/EBU, ANALOG redundant backup signal time alignment. Fully integrated into the LA Network Manager, making it easy to use.
The LS10 is an AVNV certified AVB switch, which is AVB bridge, with 10 plug-and-play network ports, ruggedized for outdoor environments, and providing AVB redundancy for the LA-RAK II AVB, supporting both network cable and optical fiber for long distance transmission.
The LA12X/4X amplifier is the AVB listener, which also functions as an AVB bridge in the serial connection.
LA Network Manager is the AVB+L-NET controller, which is used to control the whole amplifier system.
The PA system of The Big Band, 12 K2 are used for the main L/R, and 12 AVB signal channels are used in total. 6 KS28 are devided into two groups hanging front and back, using one AVB signal channel and set delayed in LA Network Manager.
The stacked KS28 are used in one AVB signal channel. The Kara in the front area are used one AVB signal channel. To ensure the safety of the live system, we also made an analog backup.
