Due to the special working hours in the performing arts industry, the proportion of women in this field is relatively small. Nowadays man is still the leading role in live events, but more women have been involving in recent years. Today we are honor to meet a female sound engineer, Li YaWen.
Li said, her family often played music when she was a child, and there were many different kinds of tapes at home. Since then, she has deeply attracted by music. “I happened to watch a performance video of the Eagles, I found myself moved by the scene.” Li recalled, “During my college, I started to explore the field of sound reinforcement and participated in live events. I also received a lot of helpful guidance from some seniors. I think that is what made my decision to be a sound engineer.”
Li is often on business trips, and can't be with her family even during holidays. "That’s always the case. For me, at the beginning, my family is not very supportive for what I am doing, but I really have passion for my job. And they finally began to understand and support.”
Now, Li prefers to work on marketing promotion, hoping to spend more time with her family. Though she still has to stay up late for work, she has no complaints with all her heart.
“Live event project requires rich experience. I treat each of them as an opportunity and a challenge. I have always felt that, in this field, it has nothing to do with gender. Be humble, keep improving yourself, do your job, that’s important.” Li conclude.
